qualcuno si ricorda di questo pilota purtoppo morto nel 2000 nella gara in salita di Colle san bartolomeo scontrandosi contro Alessio Manici??
The Colle San Bartolomeo hillclimb, titled as "Memorial Guido Mandracci", was the third round of the 2000 Italian Motorcycle Racing Hillclimb Championship. The event was marred by an accident that resulted in the deaths of two young riders. It happened on Saturday, 03 June 2000, before the start of the qualifying session.
Around 06h30, a number of racers were allowed to make familiarisation runs riding their racing bikes on the course, which was not already closed to traffic.
While traveling along the statal road SS28 towards Colle San Bartolomeo, Alan Perona crashed head-on with his Aprilia 125 into the Suzuki 600 of another competitor, Alessio Manici coming from the opposite direction, near the small village of Calderara, province of Imperia, Italy. The impact was so hard that both riders sustained injuries from which they died shortly afterwards. Fellow rider Gelsomino Papa was amongst the first to reach the place of accident, he stopped his bike and with other by-standers came to help. Perona and Manici were reached by the rescue team's ambulance in a matter of minutes, being taken to Imperia hospital. But doctors could do nothing to save their lives and they were pronounced dead on arrival.
An experienced rider since three years, Alan Perona, 25-year-old from Courgn?, province of Turin, Italy, worked as a mechanic in his family garage at Forno Canavese, Turin. A regular in the Italian Motorcycle Racing Hillclimb Championship, in 1999 he finished 7th in his class in the FMI Italian Trophy. One week before his death, he crashed without consequences during the previous race San Romolo-Monte Bignone. Perona was a member of the Centauro Club Forno Canavese.
A native of Neviano degli Arduini, Parma, Alessio Manici, 20, raced for the Moto Club Polizia di Stato. He was the younger brother of Stefano Manici, at the time one of the prominent figures in the Italian motorcycle hillclimbing scene, who announced his retirement from racing, following the tragedy.
After the accident, the event was not stopped by the organizers, but dozens of riders, including all the members of the Moto Club Polizia di Stato, abandoned the hillclimb. Came race day and Carlo Gaggero of the Moto Club Genoa eventually was the winner.
