The Karter who made headlines last year for throwing his kart’s bumper at a rival on track before having a fistfight in Parc ferme, has been handed a 15-year racing ban by the FIA.
With behaviour that would be outrageous even for a local kart track never mind the FIA Karting World Championship final, Luca Corberi not only ignored marshals to approach his rival but went even further and threw his bumper at them!
The clip went viral on social media last year, with it being confirmed that an investigation would be taking place.
Today Luca Corberi, the karter involved, was given a 15-year racing ban for his actions at last year’s FIA KZ Karting World Championship event.
In the statement given by the FIA, it confirmed that Corberi would be deprived of the right to take part, directly or indirectly and in any capacity whatsoever, in (i) any Competition organised or regulated by the FIA or the ASNs (or placed under their authority), and (ii) any preparatory testing and training organised or regulated by the FIA or the ASNs (or placed under their authority) or organised by their members or licence‐holders.
There was also a ban on taking part or exercising a role, directly or indirectly, in competitions, events or championships organised directly or indirectly on behalf of or by the FIA, or subject to the regulations and decisions of the FIA.
Finally, the ban has also stopped Corberi exercising within the FIA any duties whatsoever as an executive officer, a member of a commission, or a president of a commission, or any duties of any nature whatsoever on behalf of the FIA and/or within a body of the FIA.
There were reports that the karter had already quit motorsport, but this ban sets an example that actions like this will have serious consequences.
