Max Biaggi congratulated young compatriot Marco Melandri for his stunning ride in the Gauloises TT Assen which ended in his second podium in consecutive races.
The two former 250cc World Champions battled hard for third place at the end of the race and Biaggi admitted that he was outpaced by the Yamaha rider?s superior speed in the corners.
?I took some risks, I put the tyres in the grass at 270km/h but I never gave up,? said Biaggi. ?I lost the duel with Melandri in the last section of the last lap, where I wasn?t fast enough in the corners but, anyway, congratulations to him, he was very good today.?
Biaggi also revealed his satisfaction at finishing in fourth place after a problematic weekend had threatened to ruin his 33rd birthday, as well as his chances of staying in the title race with Sete Gibernau and Valentino Rossi. However, the Italian managed to sort out the majority of his set-up problems during a crucial morning warm-up and was quick to thank Honda for their help.
?In the morning warm-up we had the chance to better our situation and, even if the lap times did not show it, I realised that I could be faster in the race than I had been in the two previous days,? added Biaggi, who still lies third in the championship, 33 points behind joint leaders Rossi and Gibernau.
?I want to thank Honda for this, because it was thanks to their effort that we could minimize our problems and be more competitive. I faced the race in the right mood, believing I could do better than in qualifying and I had a good start and I fought from the start to the end.
?Now it?s been two races that I haven?t been on the podium so I want to be back at the front in Brazil, fighting for the victory."
